Sleep Dentistry in Perth
If you experience dental anxiety, our Perth dental clinic can help you feel relaxed and at ease with our sleep dentistry options. We offer several different types of sedation at our Fremantle clinic. Our sedation dentistry allows you to receive the treatment you need without the fear and anxiety you might usually experience. If you have been letting dental anxiety prevent you from getting the dental care you desire, call us to discuss our sleep dentistry options.
IV (intravenous) sedation enables you to have dental procedures performed while under a sedative that is injected before treatment commences. Whether it’s a more complex case or you are very anxious about visiting the dentist, IV Sedation – also known as twilight or sleep dentistry – makes the experience more comfortable for you.
If IV sedation is recommended for your treatment, you’ll need a responsible adult to escort you afterwards. We also advise that you have someone with you for 12 hours post IV sedation.
What is IV Sedation or Sleep Dentistry?
Rather than general anaesthetic where you are unconscious during treatment, IV sedation will put you into a relaxed sleep like state. You will still be able to follow what the dentist asks you to do, but usually won’t remember much once the procedure is over. IV Sedation needs to be administered by a specially trained professional.
Taking The Fear Out of Seeing the Dentist
We understand that many people feel anxious about visiting the dentist or receiving dental procedures. Dr Gopal cares about the patient experience and is experienced in making nervous patients feel comfortable and confident with her calm and caring demeanour and an emphasis on minimally invasive treatments. Sleep dentistry can help make your experience even less nerve wracking as you’ll be relaxed and usually won’t remember much once the sedation is reversed.
All Your Dental Needs in One Location
Our team offer a comprehensive range of services and work with a team of external specialists which means you often won’t need to be referred elsewhere. By offering IV sedation and twilight dentistry, we can provide even more of your treatments in house.
Can I Request IV Sedation?
We may recommend IV sedation during your assessment, particularly if you are having major treatment or have a complex case. You can also request it during your treatment planning with Dr Gopal and her team.
Learn More About Methoxyflurane Inhalation
Methoxyflurane is an inhaled medication used to reduce pain. At the recommended dose it can provide relief to patients without producing anaesthesia. Onset of relief occurs quickly after inhalation and leads to a state of deep sedation.
You must not be given Methoxyflurane if you or a family member has or are suspected of having an allergic reaction to Methoxyflurane or other inhalation anaesthetics. There are other circumstances that will prevent you being able to take this drug, please speak with your healthcare professional before undergoing treatment.
