Meet the Superior Smiles team

Principal Dentist –
Dr Rani Gopal
With a gentle touch and a holistic approach, Dr. Rani Gopal leads our practice with a commitment to pain-free dentistry. Her journey into the dental field was inspired by her own experiences as a child, where orthodontic treatment left a lasting, positive impression. This personal connection to her profession drives Dr. Rani to create a dental experience that is comfortable, caring, and tailored to each patient’s needs. Dr. Rani earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2005, followed by a postgraduate diploma in Public Health and Business Management from the University of Western Sydney in 2008. Her extensive experience spans practices across Australia, from Sydney to Victoria, before she found her home in Perth. With over a decade of local experience, Dr. Rani combines advanced dental techniques with a patient-centric approach, ensuring each visit is as pleasant as it is effective.
Always on the cutting edge of dental advancements, Dr. Rani regularly updates her skills with courses in Inman Aligner, ProTaper Endodontics, and Snap-On Smile. She’s particularly skilled at working with patients who experience dental anxiety, offering options like intravenous sedation, oral anxiolysis, or nitrous oxide to ensure a stress-free experience.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Rani is an avid reader, enjoys nature walks, and has a competitive streak in chess—a game she excelled at in school. She also practices yoga, which helps her maintain a calm and focused approach to both her personal and professional life.

Dental Hygienist –
Cherie Raynor
Cherie Rayner is an experienced dental hygienist with 20 years in the field, working across various specialties, including orthodontics, pediatrics, and periodontics. She holds a Certificate IV in Dental Nursing and an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from Curtin University of Technology. Her commitment to ongoing education ensures she stays up to date with advancements in dental care.
For the past eight years, Cherie has worked in a specialist periodontal practice, bringing a thorough yet gentle approach to patient care. She is particularly passionate about orthodontics and periodontics, striving to provide patients with the highest level of care and knowledge.

Dr Vivian Mascarenhas
BDSc (UWA), BSc (Hons) (UWA), GradDipClinDent (Sedation) (Syd)
Dental Sedationist & Dentist
Dr Vivian Mascarenhas combines more than two decades of dental experience with postgraduate training in dental sedation and a particular understanding of patients who feel nervous or anxious about dental treatment.
His path into dentistry began after initially starting a degree in computers and mathematics. Vivian soon realised he wanted a career that let him work with both his hands and his mind. After spending time gaining experience in a dental practice, he found the combination he was looking for and went on to graduate in dentistry from the University of Western Australia in 2003.
Throughout his career, Vivian has worked across hospital, public and private dental settings, gaining extensive experience treating patients under general anaesthesia and intravenous sedation. His interest in sedation ultimately led him to undertake formal postgraduate training at the University of Sydney, completing his qualification in dental sedation in 2016.
Today, Vivian brings together his experience as both a dentist and dental sedationist to help make treatment more manageable for patients who may otherwise find dental procedures difficult or overwhelming. His approach emphasises patient safety, careful monitoring, and helping people feel supported throughout treatment.

His role extends beyond the administration of sedation itself, with careful attention to patient comfort, full medical monitoring and pain management before, during and after dental procedures. This allows Vivian to work alongside the treating dentist during procedures such as dental implant surgery, wisdom teeth removal and other more complex treatments, while he focuses specifically on the patient’s sedation, monitoring and wellbeing.
